The other side...?

Have you started feeling at home in Cartesio yet? The town has offered you every hospitality that its citizens could think of. They love every corner of this town and they want you to feel the same. Have you accepted Cartesio into your heart yet?

Then it should be comforting to wake in your hotel room. A ceiling you have gotten used to, the warmth of a blanket surrounding you, your own breathing... and silence. All-encompassing silence.
It perseveres when you leave your room, it perseveres when you leave the hotel... Cartesio is quiet because there is nobody in Cartesio who could be making noise. It's a ghost town.

There is only you now, you think. And then, just as you've given up, a noise comes to your ears. A voice, unmistakably. It's time to follow it.

As of Week 5 you may see random objects and buildings of any size flicker. For milli-seconds they seem to glow on and off, blur around the edges, even distort a little. It only happens for a moment at a time, but it happens fairly often.

Welcome to the Cartesio Graveyard. Your character has woken up in a version of the town that is devoid of citizens, but there do seem to be a few people around. Time to explore the mysteries of the other side. For a more thorough OOC guide, we have compiled an FAQ.

It...was a few months ago.[ ] I was able to wake up and focus because I had to, but I think it would've taken me a lot longer if things had been different.

[We are Not going into details about his mother, not yet. That is strictly for close friends, unless unavoidable.]

I'm...not sure, but I was thinking like if Sergeant-san hadn't intended for this to happen but it did anyway, or if he doesn't know we're still here. It depends a lot on what's actually going on.

Sounds dangerous. [ he hums, vaguely intrigued rather than at all concerned that a fellow student was kidnapped and drugged. A+ human being. ] But that's something to keep in mind. We'll have to start writing down what we don't know, what we do, and what we can rule out.

[ and put it somewhere everyone can see, regardless if they're being watched by the sergeant or not. ]

Do you think he really intended for us to go "home" then?

It's been an interesting year. [And he says that cheerfully, like 'interesting' means the students pulled a bunch of wild pranks instead of. Well. Assassins and rebellion.] It shouldn't be too hard to find paper and pens, at least. A blackboard would be ideal, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I don't know...but it does seem weird that we lost two weeks, but get to move freely now. Especially since Kinomoto-san, Orion-san, and Wayne-san are in the guestbook, but none of the rest of us are. Like he's done with us, but not those three.

Haa, a little danger does make life more exhilarating, doesn't it?

[ they'll figure something out. and if that doesn't work, then organizing meetings would suffice. he'll be clan leader someday. might as well start acting like it a little early. it'll help him get a good read on the people here at least. ]

Except we're still here. Rather than being done, it's more like our turn hasn't come yet. Or at the very least, it's not completely over yet. Did you happen to see any of the three around - the little miss and the other two? I haven't.

It's definitely better than the alternative. [This line only makes sense for those who know about Class E and extreme thrill-seekers.

He thinks about that for a few minutes. So this is either a trash can or a refrigerator... There's got to be some way to find out.]

I haven't seen them. I haven't seen much of anyone, though. Except... I did see Lovepon-san. And Natsume-san, except he didn't seem to have any awareness I was there. Like I was a ghost.

Whether or not he's done with us, I'm glad we're still here. I'm not done with him.

Well, you're surprisingly spirited.

[ oh, that key word: natsume. now he really looks interested. ]

He's still here, is he? I'm glad. [ don't get him wrong, lovepon was interesting to talk to, too, but. natsume. ] ... To clarify, Natsume-kun seemed to ignore you and Lovepon-san didn't? And she was very much dead the last time we saw her.

If we can interact with her and not him, the implications are rather bleak for us.

[He laughs sheepishly. Compliments are still kind of weird. He knows he doesn't look like much.

Oh, so he knows Natsume more personally. Interesting.] Yeah. He was playing with a cat. He didn't seem to hear, see, or feel me there at all. Lovepon-san was surprised that I could see her, was all in one piece, said she woke up without injuries, and has a pulse. She also said we don't need to eat, here.

[He frowns slightly.] Sensei would be disappointed if I died now.

[ it's sounding too much like they've crossed over to the spirit zone and his lips curl faintly in distaste at the idea. he would have liked to venture there of his own accord one day, for his own purposes. and alive, of course. but if they're dead...

if they're dead, he'll be very... unhappy.

he takes a moment to check his own pulse, something he didn't think to do earlier. ]

Just your sensei?

[Nagisa had a pulse, Lovepon had a pulse... There is no spirit world in Nagisa's world. There's no magic or anything. So he's at a loss for reference points that aren't fictional, but he can think of a couple possible explanations..]

I'm not sure 'disappointed' is the right word for my classmates. ['Murderous' is a better word. Maybe 'righteously vengeful'.] But sensei definitely wouldn't want to see me again this soon.

Rightfully so. This place is unnatural and it's not our time yet.

[ he's definitely not going to let some nameless and faceless villain decide for him. isn't it already bad enough to be trapped here? to be reminded that he doesn't have a lot waiting for him at home, besides obligations. but no matter, he doesn't need anyone to miss him. he'll create his own path and make his own connections. his own choices.

he lets none of this show on his face; his smile as empty as always. his tone light with that careless edge to it. ]

Their mistake is letting us keep our will. Until my body is broken and my mind shattered, I'll take great pleasure in hindering whatever plot they're trying to pull. It'll be fun.

[His tone says one things while his words say another, and his wavelength lies in between. Mostly steady, but enough to show the sentiment is more than just words.

It sounds like it, I'm in. [And here he shifts. At Mira's trial, he'd said he was an assassin, but not once has there been even the slightest reason to believe that's true - until now. It's subtle, a hint of something dangerous sliding through the grass. A lurking predator.] So it's war.

[ ah. so they are more alike than he expected. nagisa had already proven capable during the town fire and the trial, but this glimpse of ruthlessness is admittedly unexpected - though it is welcome all the same. ]

I look forward to working with you, Shiota Nagisa-kun. [ he holds out his hand. a formal introduction at last? a pact, really. ]

[He takes it. A partnership, then.]
