The other side...?

Have you started feeling at home in Cartesio yet? The town has offered you every hospitality that its citizens could think of. They love every corner of this town and they want you to feel the same. Have you accepted Cartesio into your heart yet?

Then it should be comforting to wake in your hotel room. A ceiling you have gotten used to, the warmth of a blanket surrounding you, your own breathing... and silence. All-encompassing silence.
It perseveres when you leave your room, it perseveres when you leave the hotel... Cartesio is quiet because there is nobody in Cartesio who could be making noise. It's a ghost town.

There is only you now, you think. And then, just as you've given up, a noise comes to your ears. A voice, unmistakably. It's time to follow it.

As of Week 5 you may see random objects and buildings of any size flicker. For milli-seconds they seem to glow on and off, blur around the edges, even distort a little. It only happens for a moment at a time, but it happens fairly often.

Welcome to the Cartesio Graveyard. Your character has woken up in a version of the town that is devoid of citizens, but there do seem to be a few people around. Time to explore the mysteries of the other side. For a more thorough OOC guide, we have compiled an FAQ.

[ Nine will pass the zen garden that Bolin made on his way there. It seems the townspeople really liked it a lot and accepted it as a permanent addition to the area.

Past the fence, Nine mostly finds pipes. Many, many, many pipes. Rean's voice is coming from further inside. He seems to be giving work-specific instructions. ]

[ He'll follow the voice to see if he'll say anything interesting or do something useful. ]

[ On a scale of 1 to 10, how useful is the fact that Rean's foot is partway stuck (?) in a pipe to Nine? ]

[ It's hilarious tbh?

So he's just going to laugh before going over to try to help pull it out. ]

How dumb do you have to be...

[ Talking out loud makes him feel less alone shh. ]

[ Walking over closer reveals two important details.

1.) Rean is extremely unconcerned with the state of his foot. He's still talking technical terms to some workers.

2.) His foot isn't so much stuck in the pipe conventionally as much as it goes through a part of it. ]

What the hell?

[ That's weird. Can Nine touch this pipe? ~~how bad of an idea is this anyways~~ ]

[ Nine can touch the pipe itself. It's perfectly solid under his hand, cool to the touch. ]

[ And he can still touch Rean? Okay let's follow this pipe. See where the hell it leads to. ]

[ Touching Rean, foot aside, is also the same as usual - he feels like a human person.

Meanwhile the pipe doesn't lead anywhere special, it just merges with another one a bit further down the line. ]

[ Nine is just going to get lost in the refinery while following the pipe. Send help.

Is there anything else weird? Any offices along the way? Anything that looks important or tempting to break? ]

[ There aren't any offices, but he can find a few fun and exciting places such as: broom closets, a break room with a mini-fridge, a shed full of spare parts, and finally a changing room for employees.

None of them look unusual at first glance though. Does Nine want to snoop around more? ]

[ If only there was someone he'd be interested in in changing.

Nine is going to snoop more because yeah he's def lost. He has no idea where the hell he even came from at this point.

So let's check the bloom closets. Is there a suitable mop spear 3.0? Is there anything in there that's interesting? ]

[ There definitely a sturdy-looking mop leaning in a corner, which Nine can grab!

While he does so, the shelf begins flickering. That should no longer be surprising. This phenomenon has been present for a while now.

What is surprising is that a bottle of cleaning detergent seems to be sunken about a centimeter into the wood of the shelf once the flickering stops. ]

[ Alright, this is his now.

Also what the fuck? Just going to see if he can pull out the detergent. Is it moveable? Can he poke it with the end of his mop? ]

[ It topples over, yes! Now laying down horizontally, its whole form vanishes a centimeter into the wood. The spot where it previously stood, however, is perfectly smooth. There is no indentation. ]

[ Okay... let's... try pushing it down further into the wood. Can he push it through? ]

[ He can't. The detergent bottle behaves as if it was normally posed on solid wood and not wedged literally into the shelf.

The shelf itself is also solid. However... tracing the detergent with his finger allows Nine to stick it through the wood as well?? It only goes in for the one centimeter before everything feels solid again.

Removing his hand from his position is no problem. ]

[ He will do the thing because his impulse control is investigating the firehouse.

And then drawing his hand back asap ]

The hell is going on?

[ Alright... can he take the detergent bottle? Will it clip through other surfaces or just this spot?

Either way, we're moving on to the break room with a mini fridge. Anything good in here? ]

[ Nine can take the detergent bottle, but removes from its space on the shelf it acts as a perfectly normal plastic bottle with no properties that allow it to pass through solid mass.

The break room is tidy as everything on this end of town is, which seems odd for something that should be used to often. The fridge has a few bottles of energy drinks in a neat row as well as some prepackaged sandwiches. Bon appetit? ]

[ Let's trade the bottle of detergent for the food and drinks? Fuck yeah.

He is going to poke things to make sure nothing else is going to sink or go through anything. Let's move on to the the shed of spare parts while munching on a sandwich. Anything fun in here? ]

[ Well, it's probably very interesting to foreman Rean. If you know how to work a refinery, then this place got everything you need. Pipe leaks are no problem when you've got such a vast array of spare parts at hand!

For Nine, however, there's nothing of interest here. ]

[ He'll get it a cursory glance and decide he has NO IDEA so let's move on to changing room! He's going to be checking the lockers and breaking into any that's locked. S'up anything in here? ]

[ None of them are locked, so Nine doesn't need to add a vandalism offense to his name post-humously.

The content of the lockers is boring - there's jackets. Sometimes spare boots. Mostly jackets. Looting them yields no results.

However, once Nine opens the third locker, one of those jackets appears to be floating. So far it had been contained by the locker, but with the door opened, it floats upwards further and... straight through the ceiling.

Goodbye. ]

[ Be free jacket. Live your flying dreams.

Nine however isn't amused by this. ]

The hell is even...

[ Yeah, that's his favorite thing to say. ]

This is hurting my head, yo.

[ Just going to take one of the energy drinks he ganked earlier and just... throw it at the ceiling. Does it go through?

He will be also putting a hand in the locker to see if it'll have an effect. ]

[ It does not go through - Nine better catch it before it hits the floor again and splashes everywhere!

Likewise, examining the locker yields no unusual results. Whatever just caused this, it left along with the jacket. ]
