The other side...?

Have you started feeling at home in Cartesio yet? The town has offered you every hospitality that its citizens could think of. They love every corner of this town and they want you to feel the same. Have you accepted Cartesio into your heart yet?

Then it should be comforting to wake in your hotel room. A ceiling you have gotten used to, the warmth of a blanket surrounding you, your own breathing... and silence. All-encompassing silence.
It perseveres when you leave your room, it perseveres when you leave the hotel... Cartesio is quiet because there is nobody in Cartesio who could be making noise. It's a ghost town.

There is only you now, you think. And then, just as you've given up, a noise comes to your ears. A voice, unmistakably. It's time to follow it.

As of Week 5 you may see random objects and buildings of any size flicker. For milli-seconds they seem to glow on and off, blur around the edges, even distort a little. It only happens for a moment at a time, but it happens fairly often.

Welcome to the Cartesio Graveyard. Your character has woken up in a version of the town that is devoid of citizens, but there do seem to be a few people around. Time to explore the mysteries of the other side. For a more thorough OOC guide, we have compiled an FAQ.

[ His tape plays... for the most part. There is a whole lot of grain and noise over it - though it is possible to recognize Cartesio and some of the residents, all glitches and especially the lodge are impossible to recognize due to the video damage.

Additionally, the audio is missing entirely. So much for old technology, huh?

Meanwhile a cassette player seems to have decided it is Beatles time. ]

[ While that is going on, he's going to grab a video camara and hook it up to the tv. He's going to try to record the others who are in the store. Say hi Fran, Oly, and Nagisa. ]

Hey, let's see if this works.

[Olympia looks at the camera.]

Should I say something?

It seems like that won't be transferred over.

[Olympia just smiles and waves, then.]

[ Hrm, it doesn't seem like you can film and display on the TV at the same time. The tapes will have to be made first and then inserted into the player after completion.

Luckily you have a lot of tapes, for many smaller videos. ]

[ Okay, lets try this. Popping in a tape, probably with help from the others, and then trying it again. He'll record Oda waving and giving a thumbs up and get the message Fran is showing ]

[ The video plays! There is no audio, but everything is to be seen at least sort of clearly!

A little bit after it plays, the TV changes to another video that is definitely not made by our crew. There is Keith inside the records store and he is scowling. He's also speaking but the lack of audio makes it impossible to tell what he is saying. ]

[ Cian's been quietly in the background of this so far, but seeing Keith she gasps a little. ]

... in these videos... I think I need to let him know something.

Hey it worked!

[ HI KEET. ]

Oh? Yeah, go ahead.

[ Going to load the tape back in and record. His attention moving over to someone else for a moment to smile before back to her. ]

Go ahead, yo. I think Bakugou brought paper.

[ Any other messages guys? ]

Maybe we should tell them we can't hear them, it looks like he's trying to talk...

[He'll. Write that out for the camera.]

[ And once the camera is pointing to her, she bows. Deeply. Very, very, deeply.

What do you want to tell him? We can try to use the music for it.

[Video, huh?

Well he's no actor (although someone once considered for .1 second that he could have been!) but he can manage a decent enough message in a clip. Enough that he should be able to tell them what he wants to.

So he waves at the screen. Hello. What follows is a series of actions that he hopes will speak for him. A solemn bow, a heart made with his hands while he smiles and a gesture of pointing to his eyes and then pointing to the camera with a confidant look on his face.

[Grabs a random piece of paper and quickly draws on it.] Alright, I'm ready. [He holds it up. It has a drawing of a birthday cake, as well as his two Pokemon with question marks next to them.] Hopefully this works...

[Muttering.] Does anyone here know sign language?

What about using the music to send messages through morse code?

[Hmm.] We could probably draw out the dots and dashes as well. Or film ourselves with lights of some sort. [First let's see if drawings transfer over.]

Hey, that's smart! [ A beat. ] What the hell is morse code?

An encoding of letters through dots and dashes. There's many ways to represent it. I suppose for the music players we could simply play the song at longer and shorter intervals.

[linearcrash]

Huh. [ He wants to ask about who the hell would have come up with a thing with dots and dashes but...

more important priorities. ]

Think anyone knows it? Kino?

We can start with something simple. "Do you copy," perhaps. And see if anyone responds.

Mhm. [ he nods ] Not everyone knows about it but hopefully one of them do. That way we can talk to them without actually needing to talk.

[ Okay he comes in hearing that and he assumes somehow they're able to show themselves but it looks like talking is not an option. So he leaves, and then comes back at some point with some pieces of paper and pen. ]

... if we're going to show something off in video to try to communicate, what about writing shit on pieces of paper and holding it up?

Unfortunately, it seems to end up grainy as well.
